Rooted Hearts
A ministry of recovery and healing for women of all ages and phases of life
What we’re about
In the Church we have people from all walks of life and experience including many who have been injured or traumatized outright or others who have experienced more subtle hurt—such as neglect—from parents, caregivers or other trusted individuals. The injury may have occurred in earliest childhood or more currently in a marriage, in the home, workplace or even the church. No matter where or when the injury originates, the outcome can be debilitating for the injured.
The purpose of Rooted Hearts ministry is to prepare hearts—and particularly the hearts of women who have been emotionally injured—to realize and receive the life-giving and healing truth of God’s Word. We don’t assume that individuals—just because they are in a Christian environment—are ready or able to take in the truth of God’s Word. Accordingly, we work with women, preparing them through instruction and care, to realize and trust the life-giving power and comfort of God’s Word.
As women progress through the course, they realize how distorted views of themselves, of others, and of God can be healed and how broken relationships can be restored. In time, they are able to effectively and meaningfully give to others, to share the fruit that has grown and matured in their hearts—hearts that have been carefully cultivated and prepared to receive the love of God.
How we work
Rooted Hearts ministry includes large group instruction and small group support on Monday nights from 7:00–9:00 pm at the First Evangelical Free Church of Fullerton. The ministry is a ten-month program comprised of three ten-week sessions. There are breaks between sessions and in the summer. However, small groups may choose to get together for dinner or just to stay connected during these off-times. There is no requirement to complete all three sessions. However, due to the structure of the program, once you’ve registered for a ten-week session, consistent attendance throughout the semester is very important.
Who are we?
Jenny Potzler is the ministry’s director and also provides large-group instruction each week. Assisting Jenny with small support groups is a team of women who’ve walked through their own healing process and share Jenny’s vision to help and support women. Jenny has been married to her husband David for 30 years, and they have raised three boys. In addition to 20+ years of serving in various roles in women’s ministries, she has practiced for more than 16 years in Fullerton as a professional Marriage and Family Therapist. She does not operate as a professional therapist in Rooted Hearts ministry, but she does draw upon all of her life experiences as well as her own healing process—and most importantly upon God’s Word—to lead women through their healing process in a compassionate and empathetic way.
